Skincare: Sunless/Self Tanning on Dark Skin

*Please note that I received these Rimmel London products for free for testing purposes however my review is 100% honest and unbiased.

There is nothing that I love more than having healthy bronzy glowing skin all year long and that is one reason why I love self tanners. It's common knowledge that tanning products are predominately marketed for pale skin tones however, as a dark skinned woman myself, this is in my opinion definitely a product for all skin tones.

Just like with any other beauty products (lipsticks, eyeshadows etc), the pigmentation payoff will of course be dependent on how light or dark you are and also the desired look that you are going for.  Although I have been using the medium to dark shades, I would highly encourage first time users of self tanners to opt for the light to medium shades to begin with as I have found that a little product definitely goes a long way.

One of the reasons why I love using tanning products is because they can help with concealing uneven areas. I bruise quit easily and have quite a few scars on my legs (from climbing trees & falling off bikes as a child) which I am not really self conscious about but it is nice sometimes to hide them away and I find tanners great for that.

I find that using tanning products is a great way for me to even out my skin tone, add a touch of glow, and disguise any imperfections on my skin.

Rimmel London Sun Shimmer Instant Tan

Flawless Tan for Body and Face.

This instant tan for face and body is described as: an ultra long-wearing, lightweight gel that spreads easily for an all over natural looking tan. Water-resistant and transfer resistant yet washes off easily with soap and water. Easy application and dries rapidly. Transfer resistant up to 24 Hour Wear.

Of the 3 products that I received, this one is my absolute favourite. It definitely delivers on what it says on the bottle. It's super easy to apply and dries very quickly. There was no transfer at all on my clothes, towels or bedding. I used this one on my face and body as directed and I was super happy with the results. Although this is a dark matte shade, I found that my skin was very bronzed and glowy which was the look that I was going for.

Rimmel London Sun Shimmer Self Tan Lotion

All Year Round Tan

Rimmel's self tan lotion melts onto the skin effortlessly, drying quickly leaving no residue, for a natural looking even tan. Formulated with chia oil, it leaves skin feeling hydrated and nourished all day long. Enjoy it's unique refreshing scent. Transfer and water resistant, does not stain clothes.

This is a very lightweight moisturiser that disappears immediately into the skin. There isn't that much colour payoff however this smells absolutely amazing that I would use this just for the scent alone.

Rimmel London Sun Shimmer Self Tan Mousse

Develops in 1 hour, lasts up to 7 days

Rimmel's first self tan bronzing mousse that gives an instant colour and develops in an hour to give a natural looking streak free, even tan that lasts for up to 7 days. Skin feels nourished after immediate application and comfortable all day. The lightweight formula dries quickly, leaving no residue. Transfer resistant, does not stain clothes.

I have only patch tested this one so I can not really give an in-depth opinion of it regarding it lasting for 7 days however I definitely noticed the colour payoff immediately. A very light hand is required with this one. If you are lighter than me then I would probably say you should stay away from the dark shade unless you want a super-duper dark tan.

All 3 products have such a lovely smell which I was pleasantly surprised by. They are easy to apply however I would advice that you use a glove or something as your hands will be super stained after if you don't. Please note that these self tanners do not provide any sun protection so please still use your sunscreen.

Overall, I am super happy with these products and now I just need to be on a beach holiday somewhere. I highly encourage women of all skin tones to give them a go, you will be pleasantly surprised.
