Food Diary: Gluten Free Dining at Ciao Bella

Visit: Friday 03/03/2017 19:00hrs

This was my second visit to Ciao Bella and it's very much becoming a favourite of mine.

Atmosphere:

True, authentic Italian. The decor and the artwork is absolutely beautiful. It's very relaxed and fun and there is also live piano music (Hello La la Land). Both staff and customers also get involved in singing along and if you have a birthday you are in luck - the whole restaurant will sing for you. The staff is very friendly and they really do make you feel like you are actually old friends.

The restaurant does get pretty busy so I would highly recommend booking in advance.

The Food:

As a non-gluten eating person, I was very hesitant dining here the first time around as it is such a traditional classic Italian place I didn't think that they would have any gluten free options at all but I was pleasantly surprised.

For all of their pasta dishes, there is the option of gluten free pasta. They also have some 'English dishes' such as steak and lamb chops with potatoes etc. and a few of their dishes can be cooked gluten free on request.

As I was out with a group of friends, we split the bill which came down to just under £25pp which is pretty reasonable for 3 courses with a bottle of wine for the table.

For Starters we had,

Gamberoni allo Zenzero - Mediterranean prawns in ginger & garlic sauce (made gluten free)

AVOCADO e GAMBERETTI - Avocado Prawns served with Cocktail Sauce

BUFALA RIPIENA - Semi hot buffalo mozzarella in breadcrumbs, filled with mushrooms & garlic

SARDINE ALLA GRIGLIA - Fresh Grilled Sardines

Unfortunately I have no photos of the starters as we were all very hungry and we couldn't wait to dig in.

For our mains, most of us went for the classic pasta dishes:

TAGLIATELLE CIAO BELLA - With Salmon, Dolcelatte, Broccoli & Cream (gluten free pasta)

SPAGHETTI al POMODORO - With Fresh Tomato Sauce

SPAGHETTI 3 SAPORI - Mushrooms, Ham, Asparagus, Tomato and Cream Sauce

COSTOLETTE di AGNELLO alla GRIGLIA - grilled Lamb Chops

Coconut Ice Cream in Coconut Shell

For dessert, most of us went for the Coconut Ice cream which is just 'delightful' to quote a friend of mine. A few of us also had the Creamy strawberry cheesecake on a digestive biscuits base, rippled with strawberry compote.

Overal, the food, the atmosphere and the company was all great and I highly recommend Ciao Bella.

IMPORTANT:  always ask about allergens as recipes and ingredients can change.
